Pavement Live Slanted & Enchanted tour 1992

Le groupe indie rock Pavement se forme en 1989 à Stockton aux Etats-Unis à l'initiative des amis d'enfance Stephen Malkmus (chant / guitare) et Scott Kannberg (chant / guitare). Ils enregistrent le maxi Slay tracks : (1933-1969) avec le batteur Gary Young. Le groupe commence à se produire à partir de 1991 et la sortie du maxi Perfect Sound Forever. Il engage Mark Ibold à la basse et Bob Nastanovich comme second batteur. Le nouveau line up apparaît sur le premier album Slanted and Enchanted (1992). S'en suit une tournée triomphale grâce à un bouche-à-oreille très positif. Gary Young est ensuite remplacé par Steve West. Tous les maxis de Pavement ressortent sous le titre Westing (by musket and sextant). Suit en 1994 le deuxième album Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain et le single Cut Your Hair qui se classe dans le Top Ten. Pourtant, ce disque ne fait pas connaître Pavement du grand public. Le groupe reste underground. Stephen Malkmus et Bob Nastanovich participent au deuxième album des Silver Jews Starlight walker. Le troisième album de Pavement s'intitule Wowee Zowee et sort en 1995. Encore plus inaccessible que les précédents opus du groupe, ce disque n'empêche pas Pavement de participer au festival rock américain Lollapalooza. Deux ans plus tard, sort Brighten The Corners puis Terror Twilight en 1999.
